From Italian myristico, from Late Latin myristicus (“fragrant”); the form Myristica first used by Linnaeus as a genus name for the nutmeg tree. From Byzantine Greek μυριστικός (muristikós, “fragrant”), from Ancient Greek μυρίζειν (murízein, “to anoint”), from μύρον (múron, “unguent, perfume”). Compare myronic.
