Origin / Etymology
From French antivenin (“antivenom”), from anti- + venin (“venom”), popularized by Albert Calmette & al.'s 1894 work creating serums to treat snakebites. Equivalent to anti- + venin (“venom; biochemical toxin found in certain snakes”). Doublet of antivenom and antivenene.
